Calibration costs 250 DKK incl. VAT and can be purchased here.
According to the Danish Medicines Agency, it is not necessary for private individuals to calibrate their blood pressure monitor unless there is a suspicion that it is not measuring correctly. However, drops or impacts against the floor can affect the reading.
If you suspect that your device is not measuring correctly, you can contact Seagull Healthcare directly, and we will assist you.
If you choose to have your blood pressure monitor calibrated, you will once again have a guarantee that it is measuring correctly. There is no reason to invest in a new blood pressure monitor just because it is a few years old.
For example, do you find that the cuff is becoming porous or that the connection between the tube and the device is not airtight? It is possible to purchase and replace spare parts without affecting the functionality of the blood pressure monitor.
That is a difficult question to answer, but there is no doubt that blood pressure monitors today last much longer than they used to.
Many years ago, blood pressure monitors were not like the ones we know today. Back then, they had to be inflated manually, and blood pressure could only be read manually using a stethoscope. The blood pressure itself was measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). A lot has happened since then, and development has moved quickly. Today, we still measure blood pressure in mmHg, even though there is no longer any mercury in modern blood pressure monitors.
Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature (melting point -38.8 degrees Celsius). Therefore, mercury can evaporate even at normal room temperature. This meant that the monitor had to be calibrated frequently to ensure it was accurate and that the mercury had not evaporated. Now, electronic equipment has replaced the mercury manometer, but we still read blood pressure in the same unit, mmHg. Today, two numbers are displayed easily and clearly on a blood pressure monitor. This makes it simple for the user to measure their blood pressure at home – where it is often easier to relax and get an accurate reading.
We are happy to discuss your specific Seagull blood pressure monitor and what we can do to extend its lifespan.
