The multi-function ear thermometer

The Seagull ST-103 ear thermometer measures body temperature by taking a reading in the ear, but it can also measure the temperature of objects and liquids.

These 2 functions are easy to switch between, making it simple to check if a child has a fever or to check the temperature of bathwater. The thermometer takes measurements in just 1 second, so you quickly get an answer for the desired temperature reading.
‍
The thermometer is an infrared ear thermometer that measures body temperature using infrared light reflected off the eardrum in the ear canal. Ear temperature measurement targets the eardrum, which is not affected by external factors.
‍
To obtain precise measurements, the infrared light must be able to reach the eardrum unobstructed. It is therefore very important that the probe cover is changed between each measurement, as the light cannot penetrate earwax or other debris. As a new feature, the thermometer can only perform an ear temperature measurement if the probe cover is attached. This eliminates a potential source of error and ensures good hygiene. The thermometer fits comfortably in the hand and can be used for the whole family. The included case makes it easy and safe to carry the thermometer around, so it is always at hand when needed.
‍
The thermometer has only 2 buttons, making it easy to navigate the various settings and functions.
The thermometer turns off automatically if it has not been used for 60 seconds. This helps the batteries last longer so it is ready for the next time it is needed. With new batteries, there is enough power for approximately 6,000 measurements.

Ear temperature measurement

Studies have shown that temperature measured in the ear reflects the body's core temperature. Ear temperature measurement targets the eardrum, which is located inside the cranial cavity and is therefore not affected by external factors. The eardrum shares its blood supply with the hypothalamus (the center for thermoregulation is located in this area of the brain), and temperature changes can be registered here faster than when measured elsewhere on the body.

Normal temperature

It is important to know your normal temperature when you are healthy to have a baseline for determining if you have a fever. Normal temperature can vary significantly from person to person and can be influenced by various other factors. Therefore, it is also important to use the same thermometer when measuring your normal temperature as you do when measuring your temperature during illness and fever.

Who is being measured?

● Measuring children under 1 year: Ensure the ear canal is straightened. This is done by gently pulling the ear backward.
● Measuring people over 1 year: Ensure the ear canal is straightened. This is done by gently pulling the ear upward.

NOTE! Always use a new and clean ear cap before each measurement to ensure a reliable result.

Measuring temperature in the ear

● Attach a new, clean ear cap before every single measurement. Ensure the cap is seated correctly. Note: The thermometer can only measure if an ear cap is attached. If "CAP" appears on the display, it means a cap is missing or not attached correctly.
● Press the On/Off button. All symbols will now appear on the display. The device is set to check its functions before taking a measurement.
● A beep will sound – and the device is ready to take a measurement.
● Insert the probe (the pointed end) of the thermometer into the ear canal. The probe must fit snugly in the ear canal. Then press the TEST button to start the measurement.
● After 1 second, a long beep will sound, and the result can be read on the display.
● The thermometer is ready for a new measurement when the ear icon is visible on the display. However, we recommend waiting at least 20 seconds between each measurement. Remember to attach a new ear cap before the next measurement.

The display will show a happy smiley if the result is lower than 37.8°.
The display will show a sad smiley if the result is higher than 37.8°.

The thermometer turns off automatically after 60 seconds or can be turned off by pressing the On/Off button.

How to measure objects

● Press the On/Off button and then remove the disposable ear cap.
● The thermometer must be in "object mode". This is done by pressing and holding the On/Off button while simultaneously pressing and holding the Test button. You can then switch between ear and object measurement.
● The thermometer is ready for an object measurement when you have heard 2 beeps and the display looks as shown in the picture.
● Place the thermometer 1-2 cm from the object being measured.
● Then press the Test button to start the measurement.

The display will light up green for 3 seconds when the device is ready for a measurement, and when the measurement is complete.

Cleaning

● The probe lens is very sensitive. When cleaning, use a cotton swab (or other soft/lint-free material) moistened with 75% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe immediately with a dry, soft cloth. We recommend waiting 5 minutes before the next measurement.
● Use a dry, soft cloth to clean the display and handle. (The thermometer is not waterproof). Occasional cleaning and disinfection with 75% isopropyl alcohol using a soft cloth can be done to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
